We didn’t grow up in some giant city with flashing lights and endless arcades. We grew up in a tiny Southeast Nebraska town, population 353, where Friday night football was the main event and family reunions were basically holidays. In a place that small, community wasn’t optional, it was oxygen. Neighbors were family, cousins were teammates, and everyone showed up for each other.
